Lin on the brand new DT 175 and Spy on her SL 250 Honda when we first arrived at the Menai riding area.

Jaq and Lin just about to head out.

Jaq 5 mins later. Having said "It's not that deep!"

I cannot tell a lie. I am actually testing the new camo gear for the military.
And isn't it realistic looking?

Lin showing the alternative route thru the water.

Spy showing off her perfect rear end. I mean the the bike of course.

This bloke never made it out!

Things go better with Coke.

The DT is no longer a virgin. :P

Lets not even talk about the fenced off area nearby with the sign that reads: "Nuclear Research Facility Contaminated Liquid Waste Containment Area."
The mud I got stuck in was less than 50 feet away from that sign. Cheered me right up that did!

I've been nominated for the ADVRider front page award...see anyone can do it, just need to use some imagination.

Oustanding photo - not often I piss myself laughing at work!

For some reason it reminds of that movie "Men at work" where the airbag filled with shit blows up on those 2 dudes in the locker room. Man I'm showing my age and preference for second rate 80's buddy comedy now   :lollol:

...and that was the local coppers pursuit car after going through the same washout ?

NOICE one !!! And a big thanks for re-posting the whole story.
Also shows how much fun can be had with smaller bikes....it doesn't need to be 1200cc and 180hp to have a good time.

Re: Smaller bikes.

There's no way in the world the bigger thumpers will keep up with the DT 175 in really technical terrain.

More pics to come later, when we've devolped them from normal camera film.

Shows me and Spy climbing "The Steps".

I noticed heaps of riders on their motocrossers rode down The Steps.
Only Spy and I rode back up.
Huge slabs of rock. Very difficult.
You pick a line, twist the throttle and hold on.
In hindsight I should not have taken Spy back that way.
She only just made it. I was sure she was going to come off, but she is a determined lady and gritted her teeth and went for it.
The DT is like a Trials bike, you can just hop from rock to rock and put a foot down to hold the bike steady whenever you want.

I am glad I decided not to take the new Dominator with us on Saturday...imagine trying to get that beast out of the mudhole?

I'd probably still be there now.

If any readers are in Sydney let me know.
I am going to organise a day at Menai with a couple of blokes from ADVRider in November.
I will go back before that, during the week when the place is deserted, and map out a route the bigger 600's can take.

I will also take them on a tour of the weird nuclear wasteland and all the other X Files stuff that is around the place.

Cheers: Jaq.

To which I have to reply...is 6 too many?

The DT 175 is pretty much unchanged for it's 30 year life span.

Parts from the wreckers will fit all year models.
I just picked up a rear mudguard from a 84 model, fits my 06 model perfectly.
I want to instal a rack, easier to drill and bolt to an older guard than spoil my brand new one.
Be aware that the DT's are not that quick on the road (well snail slow actually  )
A 100 is about all you're going to get out of one, unless you change the sprocket size on the rear.
But off road there is nothing they wont climb over or transverse (except bottomless mudholes of course  )
The best fun I ever had on a dirt bike was riding all the tracks in the upper blue mountains on my old DT. Two days of bliss.
It will carry camping gear no worries.
It's light enough you can just bend over just lift it back upright without any strain at all.
My second choice of small trail bike would be the KLR 250.
That will cruise at 110 no worries, still light, still goes almost anywhere if you are careful.

Loz and monkies...

I used to think the Swamp Thing was just a Marvel character, but now I know he's alive and well and snatching hapless riders off their bikes at Menai.

With Lucas Heights Nuclear Facility just down the road anything is possible.
