Ok I'll buy into this....

I only did one ride where I took photos this month, and it was a bloody disaster thanks to the weather, so instead of a "I wish I was there" theme, I'm going with more of an "I'm glad I'm not that guy" sort of idea.

I submit my bike in the torrential rain, taken while I huddle in a small roadside shelter on the northern side of the Cardwell Range, North Queensland.

Hi....
just tried to "edit" your post by removing the URL-quotes and replacing those with "img"-quotes, but somehow the site the pics are stored on doesn't seem to allow direct-linking....this also quite often happens with photobucket accounts, where something in the account-options has to be set to enable this feature.

Have a read of the FAQ (which needs updating)

you have to have the pics hosted somewhere like imageshack or flickr and the like, or your own webpage.

please, the more pics the merrier :)

how do u insert a pic here?

glitch
01-11-2007, 04:02 PM
Let's try again, totally forgot about the faq/ new forum software issue :oops:

Go into your user CP and select "edit options", at the bottom of the page select "Standard Editor--extra formatting controls".
Save your new settings.

The pics you wish to insert into your post have to be in some other Internet-location (either your own provider-web space or some place like webpix.com etc)
The pics are then referenced into your post by specifying their URL.
You can NOT insert pics from your own hard-drive/ computer.
When posting a Message simply write or paste the URL of your image, then highlight the URL and use the "insert image" button above.

Just follow the prompts from here.

Is there a size limit to the pictures I post?

All Photos on this site should be no wider than 700 pixels. Panorama photos with a height of 200 pixels will be accepted.

K1W1
01-11-2007, 06:01 PM
Your forum your rules but IMO 700 pixels is too narrow these days.
The vast majority of people have at least 17" CRT monitors running 1024 x 768 or LCD monitors running 1280 x 1024.
I think 1024 is a better width.

The vast majority of people have at least 17" CRT monitors running 1024 x 768 or LCD monitors running 1280 x 1024.
I think 1024 is a better width.

There are various reasons for that...firstly it's a pic-heavy site, the bigger the pics, the more time it takes to load. On some of the BIG stories, it takes long enough as is...

Then there are the "older" folks , who run their 17" at 600x800 or 19" on 1024...it sorta happens when the eyes aren't quite what they were some years ago.
With the rest of the layout of the forum, bigger pics will then make it necessary to scroll sideways for each individual pic....bloody annoying, when there are a shitload of pics in a thread.

To be honest, I'd love to see bigger pics...I'd like better quality, more detail...but for the sake of sticking to the middle-ground, 700 seems to do the trick.

This was 9.30pm (Aug 10th, 2007) after our bbq dinner free camping on day 7 of my 9 week tour (on bmw k1200rs) in scandinavia and the baltics. This the first evening after meeting Kris (a swede, on a big Honda), Nico (young german - small Kwaka) and Paulo (Italian - not in pic, fast yamaha) after one of the many short ferry rides on the coast of Norway. I rode with them for the next few weeks. For me it just typifies the 'touring spirit'.

KiwiKev, Right up the top of this window, it a little picture looking button, Get the Direct Link from say Photobucket so the http ://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/mad-biker/20082008349 .jpg

Then that button will post it strait in.

the default mode here is WYSIWYG - meaning, the picture will appear in your post.
You can change, it to HTML mode, with the button on the far right, that will give you, the [ img ] link [ /img ] type html code.

When you do all that, you will get this,

Flickr is simple.

Just view any of your photos and click the "all sizes" link above the photo.
You will now get a page where various size options are shown and the photo itself will be displayed large.
Underneath the photo there is a box called "Grab this photos URL". Just copy what is in the box and paste in between the [img] tags here.

There are no issues on this forum about where ride reports are from. The more reports of NZ roads the better IMO.

I found a KiwiKev on Flickr. If that is you you can't show any photos because your account appears to be private and the images are not available for public display, that or there are no images there.

Oh yeah, baby!!!
That's the old Gotthard (Tremola)....they were re-laying the cobblestones through one of the hairpins (bottom right in that pic) when we were there in '07 and it was closed.

Rode in from both ends despite the barriers, but they sent us packing
Some incredible little dirt-tracks either side of the top of the pass though, which sorta made up for it.

Oh pleeeeaaaaase, let September roll on...this one, then the crazy trilogy of Susten-Grimsel-Furka passes within a minute of scraping the pegs on the Gotthard :kna:kna:kna

I have an SV650s and have been away a few times with it. No dirt roads, but from what I have read, there are others that don't do gravel either.

Maybe a Strom one day if I become a more hardcore adventure rider.

Will probably still keep the SV though.

The majority of the road is what I call good dirt with the odd bull dust patch to get your attention. We did strike a sandy section approx. 20km in length that tested our low speed crash techniques. ie get your bloody leg out as it goes down. A mate of mine had an FJR1300 on the same ride, a true legend!! I have a pic of it on it's side having a rest somewhere. The ice cold beer at the Innamincka pub was well earnt.

A good front knobby would have made all the difference, maybe next time!

I think I'll put this one one the Bucket List, and it won't be too hard to find, but getting there might be problematic.

I'm also interested - what's the speed limit on the bridge? I 'spose I could check Google Street View, but asking will be easier.

Flickr has changed their system since I wrote the second post above in 2008. It's still very similar and if you have a Flickr account you should be able to work it out but you can't follow the exact steps any longer.

How was the entry/ exit?
Made it to Double Island Point?

Haha, had my son with me on the back to help/push me and the bike on the exit, we entered the beach at Rainbow Beach and just rode up a few ks as he had never been on the beach before. That is looking towards Double Island Point ( just out of shot at the left)
I was very surprised on how good it was to ride the strom on the hard sand 2up.

Thought it was from Rainbow...but that entry can vary greatly, too.
Seen it all chopped up by bad weather and hordes of 4WDs.
It sure is good going once on the firm stuff....I LOVE IT.

THere's something special to running along the surf, gauging the firmness of the sand by colour and texture, trying to out-guess the waves and how far up they'll go, constantly checking for rocks sticking out of the sand or the broken edges of little streams cutting through the beach....

BB63
30-10-2012, 04:05 PM
Yep, have to agree, reckon it made it a bit more special doing it with my son on the back. :soMind you, reckon with the 2 of us heavy weights a bit of gear and the bike, we were close to weighing in at the half a tonne mark, no wonder we were getting some funny looks. :bs
Made riding the DRZ up there seem so easy too.

Just saw this thread and felt obliged to put this picture up. Its not the worlds most dramatic photo, but the whole setting was just so peaceful. It is about 10 kilometres west of Dorrigo and my understanding that two years prior it would have been still in drought. Taken Feb 2012.
