The purpose for this trip was to attend the 9th NSW N.N.L. Titles model show in Tumut on Sunday 10/4 (yes I did take some of my models).

So I ddecided to take the long way there and travel some areas I had not been through before.
The plan was to ride through Dargo, visit Dogs Grave, through Omeo, Benambra, across the ranges to McKillops bridge, Bonang, Bombala, Jindabyne, along the Alpine way, Tumut, Jingellic, Yackandandah, Whitfield, Mansfield, Yea, home. Total of 1700kms.

Left home at lunch time, first stop fuel. While filling up this rolled in

Mid '50s GM, but with no trim I have no idea, I'm a ford nut. Then on through Yarra Junction, Noojee, Moe, Tyers, Heyfield, Maffra, Boisdale, Briagolong, Stockdale, Dargo and set up camp at the Dog's Grave at 7pm.

First bit of dirt was a 6km stretch called 3 chain rd between Toongabbie & Heyfield.

Through Dargo & onto Upper Dargo Rd, looking down on the Dargo river

Onto Jones Rd, narrow rocky & steep in places, but easy enough to do if you're careful.

Saw 3 Deer on this 10 km stretch, 1 stayed still long enough for me to get the Camera out

Onto Birregun Rd

Got dark near Mount Birregun where I came across a group of large trailies heading for Dargo, they had come from Thredbo that morning & still had about an hour to go in the dark. It was getting very cold by now too. Hope they made it alright.
Reached Dog's Grave about 7pm and set up camp

Had something to eat and crawled into bed.

More to come.

Pete, the flats only happen when I'm with you lot :bt .

Indie, this was the first time i'd to the Tumut show, won't be the last. It was the best one I've been to for quite a few years.

Day 2 - Friday. This day is my pick of the trip, & most of it was new country for me.
The itinerary for today is to Omeo for fuel & food. Then onto Benambra to take Limestone Rd across to McKillops Rd, check out McKillops bridge, then through Tubbut, Bonang, Delegate, Bombala, Dalgety, Jindabyne where I spent the night.

Woke up at daybreak and FARRKME it was cold, ice & frost everywhere. Spent an hour walking around just to thaw out.

Packed and on the road by 7.30, continuing along Birregun Rd. Nice road to travel with some great veiws through gaps in the trees. Did have to keep an eye out for logging trucks though as it was a work day.

Into Omeo for breakfast and fuel. Was interesting to watch the town with no weekend tourists around. Continued to Benambra then onto Limestone Rd. Nice road to ride, good gravel surface and plenty wide enough for most of it, a few rougher spots just to keep you alert, and reasonably quick. Sat on 70 / 100kph for most of the way.

Then onto the part I've wanted to do for a lot of years, McKillops Bridge.
Some great views along here with very steep drops if you get it wrong.

Continued on to Bonang, Delegate where I had food & repaired the number plate. It was cracking from both sides inwards, glad I spotted it before it jumped ship. Then onto Bombala for fuel, continuing through through Dalgety to Jindabyne where I got a motel room for the night.
Some thoughts on today. Limestone Rd was a surprise as I had no idea what to expect, and McKillops Rd is just stunning, but you need to excercise caution in places due to narrowness and huge drops if you get it wrong. With that a road bike would handle these roads with no real trouble, just practice caution in places & give your self plenty of time. I spent 6 hours on these roads all up before I got to Bonang, but I also spent a lot of time rubber necking and just taking it all in.
