Explains why I have never seen a GS on the South Face Road I guess.

Every time I've ever ridden the South Face Road, I've seen a GS in my mirror with it's chain fitted. I guess you must be referring to GS "G" model.

Everytime you look in the mirror you'll see a GS with its chain fitted (well, it better be!!)
