New Years Gathering At Micalong Creek 30/12/11 to 1/1/12.
I used this event as a good reason to string some roads that I wanted to ride together, mainly the Snowy River/Barry Way Road, and the Wee Jasper Road.

Day 1. Home to Willis Camp Ground. 450kms.
Departed home at 9am with the days objective to camp some where along the Snowy River/Barry Way Road. First part of the trip is my well used non hwy route to Bairnsdale were I got some food for the nights camp. Once north of Buchen I was finally on unfamiliar roads and eased of the pace to have a good look around.

Spent the night at Willis camp ground on the border, where the road changes name. Why can't the states have one name for a road?

Up and gone about 7am, turned into a stinking hot day, mid 40's in the afternoon.
Headed towards Tumut along the Wee Jasper Road. Rutted and rocky in places, smooth and quick elsewhere.

Last of the pics as ran out of battery & forgot to pack the spares.

Rest of trip travelled on well known roads. Only stopped for fuel and water.

The Snowy River/Barry Way Road was the highlight and was in good condition when I went through, with lots of views into valleys and across the ranges. Wainui Road turned out to be a little gem, well worth the ride if you're in the area.

When I saw the title, I thought: Jeez, he's rushing it..first one in....he's done the Xmas ride already

It's looking good, mate...a much cherished part of the world.
As for Seldom Seen....I'd attribute that name to the guys running the joint...sorta....cause they're pretty "seldom"seen".
Encountered the place closed more often than open over the years...and petrol out of the pump was also 'seldom seen".

A pretty good bet to catch up with the guys is a walk through that junkyard (mind the snakes, aye?)...and where ever you see the glint of an aluminium beer- barrel, that's where they are!

Will never forget rolling up there on a 40+C day and getting offered 'a drink"....thinking of a softdrink from the fridge and finishing up with a good half-liter of nearly boiling beer from the barrel in the sunshine outside.
Shared the big coffee mug with the overflowing foamy stuff with everyone, incl. the sheep, I think.

Bloody flew through Suggan Buggan and up to Jindy that afternoon, fugg yeah!
Can't really remember too much of anything, but we got there somehow.

..... getting offered 'a drink"....thinking of a soft drink from the fridge ....

On the Kossie to Coast ride two of us stopped at the Seldom Seen roadhouse for a drink. The door was open, the 'fridge was full, the sign on the counter said something like, "If there's no one around, just leave your money in the jar...."

Not having anything less than a $50 note, and not wanting rummage through the jar for change of $46 in coins, and then with nothing to carry the change in (the support vehicles were behind us) we decided to sit in some shade and wait for the others to catch up.

Ahh, the quiet serenity of Seldom Seen, you can hear all of the bush sounds, the breeze rustling the leaves in the trees, the chirping birds, some furry little friend scratching their way through the under growth......, we could even hear the dueling bangos, and squealing pigs.

Oh shyte!! You are your most vulnerable in your lycra shorts, on a pushie in the middle of nowhere. Time to through a leg over the saddle and ride on.
