Day 44: Esperance to Nullabor Roadhouse
Distance: 1,107 km Total: 19,156 km
A special day for me today. To celebrate, I was in the mood for a bit of a ride.
300km before morning-tea.
I rode through some of this.
Then a lot of this.
500km before lunch.
Wake me up when it’s time to turn…
More of this.
850km before afternoon-tea at Border Village.
The last 250km for the day was spent dodging kamikaze kangaroos in the dark.
I ran out of fuel and had to top up using the emergency supply. It was eerily quiet and oh so dark. The Nullabor Roadhouse 20km away was like a space station in the distance.
A bed in a donga next to the generator set. I treated myself to what turned out to be an incredibly sad mixed grill and a few very ordinary beers.
1,107km in 12 hours and I felt like I still had another 400-500km in me for the day – I guess turning 40 hadn’t made me that old after all…
