Rockin' The Soul_NZ's South 2013
The bug just hadn't let go, the memories of the 2012 trip to the South Island just wouldn't quit. Another 2 weeks, once again roaming free as a bird without fixed plans, just going by mood and weather forecasts.
And the place didn't let us down....
NOT ONE BIT!!
Found some exceptional accomodation
Found our way across the Haka, the Mackenzie's and Meyers Pass
Admired the endless turquoise rivers and lakes
Enjoyed some great tucker
and the generous amount of river-pebbles to add some extra-kick to the riding
Crossed the Dansey's Pass
...and had lunch on the warm rocks of the Macreas Rd., then shook our heads at the hidden wonders of the Horse Range on the way to some giant soccer balls someone had forgotten on Moeraki Beach.
Creeping out of the fog on the Ramrock Rd.
...while floating above a sea of cottonwool in the valleys.
The Old Dunstan Trail across the High Plains,
the gobsmacking Thompson Gorge Track, the brutal corrugations of the Treble Cone and Remarkables roads, but the view, maaan...
the VIEWS!!
No way, I'll forget the chase up the Crown Range Rd....and then the Skipper Canyon,
WHOOHOO!!
Aliens over Cromwell
...and then the Thrills 'n Spills of the Nevis Pass....oh yeah!!..you better love your river crossings!
Some fine drops of local brew
The jawdropping vistas from the Hawksburn Track with it's steep, rocky drop into Clyde....
and the Lake Onslow track across the top into Linburn Runs
under low-flying blackbellies threatening an real bad soaking.
It didn't stop there, oh noooo....Takaka Hill in the north, Cape Farewell, Cape Foulwind and the weird coal-mine on top of the coastal ranges at Deniston
the awesome twisties of Hwy 6 towards Murchison, the hidden valley at Pepin Bay
Buller Gorge, Maruia Saddle and the Braeburn Track, it's hard to go for air, the thrills just never stopped.
Who can forget the rubble-avalanches of the Rainbow Rd.
Goodie's birthday celebrations at Lake Tennyson, cake and all
Yet more stumping country up the Molesworth Rd.
The little Taylors Pass out of Blenheim, the Old Culverden Stock Route, the scraping twisties of the Inland Kaikoura Rd., the seals on the beach at Hwy1, Gore Bay and the shonky old pubs, the laughs, the guffaws, the bloopers, the bullshit....how much more could one possibly cram into a fortnight?
HEAPS MORE !!
Go and find out!!
