:btWhen nothing you expect DOES happen... and everything you never dreamed of, eventuates.
What an absolute gem of a day this turned out.:glu

Dave/ Steve...go for it, guys!
I'm still sorting.

Cute 'n Cozy...little Hideaway along Sassafras Creek in the Dandenongs....using the nice way to the meet :so

An absolute SPARKLER of a morning up at Johns Hill Reserve above The Patch
and Yarra Valley

Melbourne's South-East, Arthurs Seat and all that.

Sliding down the steep, dry gravel at Jacksons Hill, it's off to the meet with Steve (Steve 738), Dave (Farawayman) and Richard (K1W1) who only popped in to say "g'day"....hope you've had a good 'un !!

Some neat gravel and sweet views later we're past the Pack Track, the Pothole-Polka of the Black Snake Creek Rd. and under the powerlines towards Labertouche. Little dust, most potholes gone...speed's up.

goodie

...
I was there, too! But no pics from me today. Camera - check, batteries charged - check, memory card - oops!

"Hey, I've got a mate down here, you wanna drop in at his joint?"

Why not, eh?
When there's 1700acres (~700hectares), a HUGE house, a quarry!!...a cattle + potato-seed farm, a few kilometers of private, sealed twin-lane driveway and endless farm tracks to play with....aside from the glorious views, great roads in+out and some real curious things like a turnoff-inside-a-cowshed and endless other things to keep the head spinning!!
The Old Sale Road just had one mega-attraction added to it!! Hell Yeah!!

After some furious slippin' 'n sliding on the micro-gravel/sand down to the dam...which really is a LAKE fed by various springs and a couple of creeks!

Coming along for a spin up there to check out to other paddocks?

Wilkes and River Connection Rds. prove a merry twisties-dance up some enchanting green hills (gotta go back again and check out a few more, little shortcuts and connectors just north of Yarragon + Trafalgar, they'd tie in very nicely into future rides)....then it's off for a look at the Farrell, Williams and Paynter Rd. Triangle, crowning over some prime Latrobe Real Estate.

Nice! Looks like a ripper ride! Where abouts is that area with the power lines? Would love to check it out.

Nice! Looks like a ripper ride! Whereabouts is that area with the power lines? Would love to check it out.

Bunyip SP

A few ways to get to from Gembrook. The stretch could extend a bit past Pt.B to the north-west, it's hard to judge where exactly the track offsets from the powerlines and runs parallel in the bush.

Loads of tracks underneath the p/lines themselves, but something you'd really rather want a 250 for. Fairly popular with the MX crowds.

The one we came for...

The Rowleys Ridge starts just at the northern end of Blue Rock Lake with the Russells Creek Rd....

RowleyRidge_18.JPG

...then starts to dip and weave it's way through the bush on some rough, coarse gravel....

RowleyRidge_19.JPG

RowleyRidge_20.JPG

RowleyRidge_21.JPG

...crossing the West Tanjil River (which is sizable enough for a small concrete bridge and some pretty bush-camping spots in the triangle where the East Tanjil River merges).

RowleyRidge_22.JPG

North of the bridge things got a lot smoother...and the real fun started.

Not too many views to be had, but those that cropped up, were certainly worth stopping for.
Looking into Mt. Worth State Park across the mouth of the Latrobe Valley.

RowleyRidge_26.JPG

The 2.half of the run into Tanjil Bren offered some patches of deep-ish 3/4 to 1" gravel cover which would be good to get a little practice on before the NZ-ride next year.

What a bewd ~30k's or so...and what a way to spend a simply "PURRRFECT!!" afternoon in the bush.
Chomping sangas and nuts at the Tanjil River bridge, fighting the bopping front-end over those coarse-gravel stretches to nearly nailing a teenage-wombat in an obscured lefthander....perfect temps and conditions with fairly little dust, hooray!

Down the BawBaw Rd., some backways around Noojee...and finally getting away from some crawling holiday-traffic by taking the backroads from Gladysdale.

What a cracker of a day!! :lao

Thanks for coming along, guys.....we'll do it again soon and throw in a few more new stretches to liven things up. :gday:

Merry Christmas! :clap::clap:
