Hobbits And Bobbits...NZ'12-The North

asphalt

Tassie...where tyres are flat and nights are long
What a bloody good ride between reality and dream to never forget them!
Thank You Pete, for the beautiful impressions with an awesome team!

Hey you guys spent the day in my territory. back then when I was a BP rep Everything south of Oakura across to Stratford, up to National Park then Waioru and south to Bulls was my territory. I did over 50,000km in that area in just over 12 months in the racing BP Rally special 1.4l Escort. I reckon I drove every road at least once and believe it or not on the weekends I felt it was my duty to revisit many of them on my XJ650 just to, well because they were there.

I'm sad to see that you didn't wait 10 minutes for a clear view on Mt Egmont. Literally that big hill can and does go from being an upside down ice cream cone in a blue sky to being fogged in within 10 minutes all day every day. it's freaky.

Now if I find that "tomorrow" you didn't go to Horopito and stop in for a look at Horopito Motor Wreckers or ride up the Bruce Road to the Wakapapa ski field for photos I will kill you, every single one. Be warned!

:D

Mate...it was a toss-up between staying on and hoping for the clouds to lift, or not wasting time to wait for the improbable.

Egmont was still clouded in when we last saw it from 20k's east of Hawera....no regrets then, it was the right move. It must be absolutely awesome when the skies are clear, though....not awesome.... majestic would be the right word.

As for hooning around in 1.4l Escorts...what's changed? :bs

And we did better than the wreckers and Wakapapa....
Just ask Hans....:bees::rofl::rofl:

Silently I’m praying to find that turnoff off Hwy4, it’s another one of those back-country connectors, bouncing merrily through the farms and paddocks towards Taihape.... and with a bit of luck should give some stumping views of Mt. Ruapehu in all its mighty-white glory.

Barely on the bike and still on the short hwy-section...hands and fingers have been as white as Ruapehu since the edge of town....:cold::cold:

Found it!

With hands re-attached, a belly full of the traditional tour-tucker (bacon+ eggs) and some ideas of some nifty routing it’s out the back of town on Spooners Hill Rd. and Moawhango Valley Rd. to hook into Gentle Annie, our way across to the east.

:slobb

This...THIS!...is NZ backcountry at its finest! What a magic road this turns out ...and it’s all sealed into Napier on the East Coast.
C’mon, tag along...

What a nice way to the “end of roadworks”....and at a fraction of the cost of another clown twirling a STOP-sign on penalty-rates.
