Jo and I decided to head out for a long weekender. Being the middle of the school holidays, accommodation was hard to find. Managed to find a motel in Leongatha with a spare room for a couple of nights.

Headed out Friday morning. Out to the east through Cockatoo, Pakenham Upper, some backroad shortcuts near Ripplebrook, Main Sth Rd to Ranceby, then doubled back to Poowong for lunch at the Cafe/takeaway.

Bills Trough in Poowong.

After lunch took a big loop down to the SW along a bunch of little roads I couldn't possibly ever find again without the GPS and then scooted around the south of Korumburra and into Leongatha mid afternoon. I can't remember seeing Gippsland this dry and brown before. Most times I have come down this way it's been very green and lush.

Saturday morning we headed out to the east, bound for the Grand Ridge Road which we hit in Boolarra South.

Took the Albert River Road Turnoff to the Hiawatha campground,

then the Hiawatha-Mandalay Rd, the Yarram-Morwell Rd, back to the GRR, then the Tarra Valley Road which we followed down to Devon and then into Yarram. Almost had a head on while riding around a left hander on the GRR with a dirt biker coming the other way who had his mind set on the Apex of the corner. After he shit his pants and corrected he pooped his pants again when he overcorrected and headed back onto the wrong side of the road again straight for Jo.

Went to the Bakery in Yarram and bought some wraps and some slices and packed those in the tankbag and headed back up the Bulga Park Rd.

Stopped at the Tarra Bulga Visitor centre picnic area for lunch where the locals were too shy about asking for a bite.

After lunch headed north on the Traralgon Rd, before veering off onto Red Hill Road, and then south again on Traralgon Creek Road.

IMG_3673.JPG

Traralgon Creek road followed the Traralgon Creek for about 20km. Starting as a sealed road, then rocky dirt and finally 2 track. There was one small creek crossing (which would probably be better classified as a puddle).

Left onto Jeeralang W Road then a few km later headed west on the GRR again then veered north onto Budgeree Rd. Met up with sealed roads again on the Morwell River Rd, another sealed gem of a road running into Boolarra and then on to Mirboo Nth and back to Leongatha.

Sunday morning we headed south. Stopped at a cafe in Meeniyan for breakfast before continuing south to Fish Creek.

I'm not sure about the goat.

Didn't ride into the promentary, but went as far as Walkerville before looping back into Inverloch. Stopped down at the waterfront where there was a long queue of boats and jetskis being launched and retrieved at the boat ramp.

This boat launch provided quite a spectacle. Two blokes were sitting in the boat while the driver backed the car and trailer with boat down the ramp. To save time later they had already unhooked the boat from the trailer. The trailer got about half way down the ramp before gravity got the best of the setup and the boat slid off the trailer rollers onto the ramp and then into the water The white patch on the ramp behind the car is the fibreglass from the bottom of the boat.

Charted a path north, Kongwak, Bena, Druin, Tynong Nth and through to Gembrook and back home after lunch in Woori Yallock and fortunately were inside the cool house before the day really heated up in the late afternoon.

This should link to a google map with the ride tracks.

Looks like a couple of sweet loops. Both nights in Leongatha?
It also would've been a bit nicer/ cooler up around the GRR.
Can hear a stack of $$ scraping away on that boat ramp...ouch!

So...what did the parrot and Jo talk about?
Or was it just about the cheesecake?:)
