I knew I had a pic of the Rotary, just couldn't find it amongst the big camera's offloaded photos. Owner Ian in the background -

Whata rare beast.
I think I read a yarn many years ago about that "Wankel" (just had to use that word!) engine having started life in a German DKW or Hercules.....the W2000 or something?
Might have it all bum-about, though...

NSU (Audi) with R080, ...... was produced also with rotary motors. A revolution of vehicle technicals at this time.

I sure remember the RO80 ...unreliable, thirsty-as-all Rotaries, crap engines and a fierce reputation as a local planter-box.
That piece of junk cost NSU its neck, driving it into the arms of Audi/VW.

They should've stuck with the little Prinz!
What a hot, little jigger at the time, the 1200TTS was one monster of a pocket-rocket...King of the hillclimbs and dozens of national titles.

That engine was later fuel injected (mechanically) for the 100hp TTS-E
Muench Mammut (Mammoth)....300kg of bike -madness.
Them were the times...:D

May be, that the NSU R080 was not really a technical highlite....

May be, that the NSU R080 was not really a technical highlite....

But rare enough nowadays to make it some sort of collectable....with some Ford/ GM 4-clonker in it to drag it through some carshows.

The 2-seater Sport Prinz was a serious enough flagship for NSU

for BMW to create their 700cc LS coupe and cabrios.

The little "Prince" fastback came with a 600c parallel twin in the rear making for a genuine top of 160kmh. NSU knew what they were doing....and BMW was gasping.

The tiny shoebox-styled TTS turned into the real cracker though.
If you ever drove a 1200TTS beyond the 200kmh mark without the front boot being heavily loaded down with sandbags or scrap-metal....you most probably didn't live to tell the tale.
