Default Quick run through the Cathedral 23rd Aug 2012

No, I'm not talking about that....

RDO today so I took yesterday off as well and decided to do a quick ride before the weather closed in. Been meaning to explore the tracks behind Cathedral range so I thought I'd take a look. Didn't take enough photos cos I'm lazy, but what the heck.

Can seem to embed the route so its linked here.

Found this house on the west face of The Cathedral. I want it!

A view of the northern top of the range from Knafl Road

Mount Cathedral Vinyard - no wine in sight

Went along Little River road for the most part. The track was 2WD passable (just) but very lumpy in parts, but well drained and not well traveled enough to be chopped up and muddy. Fun on the Tiger though. Midday was approaching and I was starting to get peckish.

An interesting tree and sky on the way out.

Headed for the Black Spur Inn and had a beer and awesome potato wedges with sour cream and sweet chili. Highly recommended. Weather started closing in as I was leaving so I decided to head back to Melbourne via the Black Spur rather than my intended route along Acheron Way. Had a pretty good run actually with only one slowpoke to pass.

Oh man, you certainly know how to pick your days....what a glorious one it was yesterday!!

Great shots!.....can we go halves in that house?
There are some awesome properties hidden away in the backblocks up there....we'll see a few more of them on the Alex-ride coming up.

As to the map....it seems to be an "overlay" map, only based on google-backgrounds, but not using the Gmaps as per "net-version".

Re-did the map online and came up with this:

Yeah I imported the route into Gmaps generated from my Garmin. Had to frig around to make it half decent.

I've spent several days walking along the top edge of the Cathedral Range. It was a bugger of a walk before the fires I wonder what it's like now.

Looks like it got hit hard in the 2009 fires. There is lots of regrowth but also lots of dead trees on both sides of the range.
