The Loose Mick Ride

Sir Francis

Displaced person
A bit of a mix-up meant we skipped breakfast and made an early start on the Bonang.

We stopped at the dirt so Fuzzy could be first.

The road into Bombala where Williamson was already waiting.

Killer bacon-egg rolls and wraps at the Bombala bakery. Seriously good.

I think my Triumph was a little jealous at all the attention the KTM was getting and so spat it.

An inspired ride across to Berridale and Adaminaby where more of Fuzzy’s fan-bois were waiting. :bs

Trout looks fresh.

An absolute hoot over the top to Kiandra where they’ve painted the lines in KTM orange.

Sil’s tyre was a little thin in the middle so the Tyre Whisper was called into action at Cabrumurra.

Apparently, first you need to whisper sweet sweet thoughts…

And then you massage the rubber from the edges towards the middle… :wot:

A couple of nervous moments for everyone on the Elliot Way where the road had melted but a blissful ride across the valley floor and climb towards Tumbarumba.

A short hop and we were at the Walwa pub.

Nice beer garden and super meals.

They are quite selective as to who they will let stay there. So much so, they’ve made a sign. Good thing we were traveling with a lodger. :killingme

A pretty quiet night made for another early start.

Williamson jumped off at Tangangalanga. Famous Rog stayed home after lunch in Myrtleford.

Now what is Fuzzy doing waiting in a bus stop at Tolmie?

Home 15 minutes before the rain began.

Trip distance: 1,491 km for me.

Yep, not much had changed since the last visit above in 2002.

Ohhh, those classy Orbost pubs :bs
Yep, nothing much has changed..... since 1885 or so...
British Paints really made a quality product then :killingme:killingme

At least there weren't any stacks of bricks/Encyclopedia Brittanica or casserole pots under the corners of the beds...were there?
See the Top Pub (Commercial Hotel, at the roundabout) for those delightful features!

Looking great...can't wait for the next instalment :watch:

Edit: oops, beat me by a flicker

Whilst Sir Frank, Fuzzy and family were tootling in a generally easterly direction, my Friday went like this:

An early rise, pack and departure from the Bruthen Caravan Park, first stop Bruthen Bakery for pie and coffee, then via 21 The Eyrie, Johnsonville to visit an old workmate (Norm) at Blueberry Fields (more details here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blueberry-Fields/218354221533586).

Then basically via the Princes Highway with a few detours to a few off highway localities (Waygara, Marlo, Cape Conran, Mallacoota). After Genoa a heavy mist / light drizzle set in, so I deferred Imlay Road until the next morning.

Set up camp at the Tathra Beach Motor Village (TBMV):

Grassy, BIG, sites but a very pricey. I know it's the Christmas - New Year holiday period, but $52.00 per site for one person????

(The Bega TAFE has a course for local businesses - How to Over-charge Tourists - the TBMV proprietors passed this course with honours)
:bees:

Around 390km for the day.

Saturday (pre Bombala) went something like this:

The Imlay Road was good, would have been great if not for the roadworks. I even got my own escort through a 4km section of works. If you click on these, go to originals and view enlargements you might be able to see the "Follow" "Me" lED sign on the truck roof.

Met up with John and Gerry (from OzSTOC) and Terry (one of John's mates from some Triumph forum), and then Frank, Fuzzy and family at the Bombala Bakery. Not sure about the egg & bacon rolls and wraps, but the salad sandwich was pretty good.

Frank, Fuzzy and now extended family left Oz and trumpy riders behind and headed for Adaminaby via this route:

On the way there were some views:

This was on the Snowy River Way at around 900m about half way between Bombala and Dalgety.

Then just before some tyre kissing and rubbing at Cabramurra:

Lisa on the Elliot Way:

Glitch might remember this spot as well as me?

The ride from O'Hare's rest area out of the valley was fast and furious, but I couldn't catch Frank, Fussy (oops, do I mean Fuzzy?), Gary and Rodge.
The onto Walwa for a hard earned beer or three.

Thanks to Frank, Fuzzy, Gary, Ridge, Lisa and Silvio for the company today.

Around 485km for the day.

W-) Get used to it...it's parking fees for Long Vehicles.
:bees:

$52bux for a patch of grass for a night? They're fuggen NUTZ!!
And I thought Bright was a total ripoff...

Nope, haven't got a clue

Nice stuff there...like that pic of Lisa coming over that bridge, good shot.
Where'd you stay in Walwa?

Off season rate is a reasonable $27.00 per site per night per two adults.

Nope, haven't got a clue

That's the bridge with the slight left-hander that you made and I didn't, and I ended up in the run-off track. Still can't get the brown stains out of my dacks.

Where'd you stay in Walwa?

Patience my good man.

No shit! :killingme

Of course I knew which bridge :so
Wouldn't get away with it today, mate...saw that boomgate made of
6"square section galvanized about 20m in, that the forestry-guys put up since?

As for the daks...I've swapped to 3M stain-release jocks now, good stuff.
Try Carpet Stain Remover Wet 'n Dry...you know the foamy stuff you can vacuum off once dried (don't forget to take 'em off for that last bit of the operation, willya?)

Sunday

My original plan was to split from the group on the Omeo Highway at the Lockharts Gap Road turn-off, continue south (to see what all the fuss has been about), stay over-night with a mate (Steve) at Omeo, and continue home via Bruthen.

These plans went astray after a where's-the-car keys call from home, and Steve not answering his 'phone.

The day then went like this:

A quick sprint along the Murray River Road, over Granya Gap, along Murray Valley and Omeo Highways and then Lockarts Gap - not as fast as some though!!!

Waved goodbye to Frank, Fuzzy and friends near Tangambalanga and headed home. By the time second call I-found-them came from home I was at Beechworth, so I slackened the pace for a more relaxing, interesting ride.

Some pics of the day:
A Handsome Couple

Yeah, I know Frank posted it before, but I like it.

Lisa or Silvio on Granya Gap:

And so on .....

A trying 490km for the day.

Around 1,735km for the long, long weekend.

A couple of photos from the trip. Didnt take many but I have a lot of video that I'm slowly going through. A compilation to follow.
