Grey and overcast, Monday doesn't start too well and just about anything could be waiting up in the hills.
Decision made, we hit the twisties towards Omeo and see what happens.

Found the little Bingo Spur, getting us directly into the Omeo Valley and up Mt. Blowhard again.

Standing on the shores of Lake Omeo :wot:....
.....and instead of watching the boats come in, it's the bikes going out! :so

ALL the tracks across the dry lake converge at the Benambra Pub...

A leisurely lunch in Omeo...and it's back past "The Duck" and onto the Bogong High Plains Rd, across to Falls Creek.
Sweeet-Twisty-O...
(but to keep the sport-punters happy, she'll need a fresh coat of blacks soon!! That asphalt is getting corrugated badly enough in some bends as to shake the fillings out of the back teeth)

Some opt for the Trappers Gap, some take the lazy way of the Redbank and Lockharts Gap, bearing the brunt of a hot summer's afternoon in the valleys.

Great day up and around the High Stuff, good company and plenty of laughs.
Life's Good! :party::chug:

Dreamlike images of an enormous event.
I'm jealous:glu

It was a ripper of a weekend, mate...you would have loved every second of it :chug:

is that lake always like that or is that dry up there?

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benambra,_Victoria

The town of Benambra is on the shores of Lake Omeo which can also serve as a tourist attraction, however this lake only irregularly holds water at present. During wetter times a pier and public toilets were built at the top end of the lake furthest from the town where the lake is at its maximum depth. The depth varies when full from about 3m at the top end to about 1m at the town end, where the lake will flood across the sealed road. When holding sufficient water, the lake has hosted sailing, and, later, speed boat races; the last speed boat races were held on Australia Day in January, 1975.

Not quite correct

The last Boat races where held on the 25th of January 2016...

Well, actually boat anchor races, it was a dead heat between a Super Tenere, 1200GS and a 1190R.

Our hosts for the weekend, Noel and Jo.
Great folks...and a job well done.:clap::clap:
Guess they're now sick of cooking up bacon & eggs breakfasts for a while

Veering home via the Lockharts Gap and Allens Flat, there are a few more backroads to check out.

map1.jpg

Schmidt Lane out the back of Yackandandah turns out an easy gravel option through plantation timbers to Stanley...then some native bush tracks past a real surprise, popping out of no-where!

Murmungee Lookout :glu:glu

Glorious views south towards Bright, Buffalo, King Valley, the Milawa Flats etc. etc.

AnniEsk_70.JPG

It sure is a stumper!

AnniEsk_M_52.JPG

AnniEsk_71.JPG

A few more zigs + zags ... a road that doesn't exist on most maps...

AnniEsk_72.JPG

AnniEsk_73.JPG

....why don't I have a bottle sticking out of my pack?...

AnniEsk_74.JPG

...and there's a maze of fabulous dirt roads into the back of Whitfield, where the Long Weekend Hordes choke the town, screaming kids, jostling SUVs... we all make our own way home from here.

What a fantastic weekend!! :slobb
Thanks to all who came, who brought stuff along, carried gear and helped out here and there or took the trouble and long ways for only one night or so....

Bottoms up to the next decade
