Los Angeles or dust - we chose Harleys!

...so we hired a dirty great SUV and drove to Las Vegas via Death Valley instead which Harleys would have been perfect for.

Looking at the kind of country that that style of bike originates from, it all makes sense.

Nice trip. I have fond memories of riding alongside Big Bear Lake. It was the last nice road before we descended into San Bernardino valley and the last hour or so of freeways on our 2010 ride across the USA.

Day two started of course with Breakfast, we were just 10 minutes before they all came in for Breakfast on Saturday morning.

Our route for today was through Joshua Tree NP
QMlzuNR.jpg

They told us the NP consists of two deserts. The higher elevations with the Joshua Trees is part of the Mojave Desert. Lots of boulders are in that part as well. :photo::photo:

Joshua Tree NP....never heard of it !

What a beautiful area! Those boulders seem to be part of a whole seam of geological features along the West Coast...right up to the Canadian Border.
Keep going...this is GOOD!

Yeah the boulders are quite impressive.
Here is the story to it:
>>After the arrival of the arid climate of recent times, flash floods began washing away the protective ground surface. As they were exposed, the huge eroded boulders settled one on top of another, creating those impressive rock piles we see today.<<

.... They told us the NP consists of two deserts.
We followed the main road through the NP from the main entrance in 29-Palms southbound to HWY 10. I recommend to do so.

Otherwise you miss the moment of swinging down from the higher elevations into the lower Colorado Desert. That drive combined with the views was fantastic.

Pics wont do it justice - so no pics.
In the Colorado Desert all boulders and Yoshua trees are gone just a rocky desert with some bushes.

But not when we came, the rain of the weeks before turned it into a flowering desert. :woot::photo:

After leaving the park we went west on HWY 10 to Palm Desert and then up the Pines to Palms HWY. This is really something!!!:glu
You should do it twice - up and down and enjoy the perfect road.
Pics wont do it justice - so no pics, just the map.

Now the fun was over. We saw the clowds before and the weatherman had told us also. It started to rain.

The plan was to go to Borrego Springs after Pines to Palms HWY. We skipped the plan after refuelling of petrol, coffee and cake. There was no chance of a dry ride. So it was the HWY heading for San Diego.
The easterly route was the original plan - for sure more fun the the Hwy.

Remembering yesterday?

Todays weather is fine. First we looked into San Diego for a coffee in the Hard Rock Cafe. After some wandering around to find a nice road parallel to the coast we finally made it going North.
