Default Micalong New Years Gathering 2011.

New Years Gathering At Micalong Creek 30/12/11 to 1/1/12.
I used this event as a good reason to string some roads that I wanted to ride together, mainly the Snowy River/Barry Way Road, and the Wee Jasper Road.

Day 1. Home to Willis Camp Ground. 450kms.
Departed home at 9am with the days objective to camp some where along the Snowy River/Barry Way Road. First part of the trip is my well used non hwy route to Bairnsdale were I got some food for the nights camp. Once north of Buchen I was finally on unfamiliar roads and eased of the pace to have a good look around.
Memorial at Murrindal

Strange people here

Near the start of Snowy River Road.

OOPS!

Some great views

Road is getting interesting

Have to careful of what is around the corner

More views

Another reminder not to be an idiot

Suggan Buggan School House

Monaro Gap

Spent the night at Willis camp ground on the border, where the road changes name. Why can't the states have one name for a road?

The Snowy River is there somewhere

There it is, not in full flood

Late in the day

Some weird trees in camping area

End of Day One.

Day 3, Micalong to home. 700kms.

Camp ground

Up and gone about 7am, turned into a stinking hot day, mid 40's in the afternoon.
Headed towards Tumut along the Wee Jasper Road. Rutted and rocky in places, smooth and quick elsewhere.
Batlow

Last of the pics as ran out of battery & forgot to pack the spares.

Rest of trip travelled on well known roads. Only stopped for fuel and water.

The Snowy River/Barry Way Road was the highlight and was in good condition when I went through, with lots of views into valleys and across the ranges. Wainui Road turned out to be a little gem, well worth the ride if you're in the area.

Just imagine how strange they are for Steve to call them strange .....

Seldom Seen - ever wondered where the name comes from? The Wikipedia entry doesn't help - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seldom_Seen_Roadhouse

Any ideas?
