How does that compare to the Whanganui River Rd.?

On closer inspection...there's a hell of a lot of stuff bouncing inside that "square" made up by SH 4/ 49/ 1/ Mangatipona Rd.
Not too much sealed, I guess...but great for an overnighter to suss out the whole lot.

A lot more gravel - some of it a bit rougher in places. Similar sorts of views although the river is not as big as the Wanganui River. Not as many settlements so it feels a bit more remote.

There's another one a little further to the west, along the Patea River.
Ball Rd. and Maben Rd. Wished we'd had the time, just saw it too late on the map, by which time we'd already hooked into the Waitotora.
Another one for next time...
