It was a lovely ride around South Australia. The silo mural in Coonalpyn was worth stopping.. every time we see silos along the way I would imagine what other artwork can be added to them.

When we were there the artist was working. We could see the cherry picker moving in the wind.

The highlight of the trip was Whaler's Way in Port Lincoln. Apart from the small section of sand it's a very enjoyable little tourist spot.

Sometimes the view may not be majestic but you have to stop..

The ride through Flinder's Ranges is well worth the trip.

Riding through the canyon was challenging in part but the gravel was firm. I can't imagine what the road would be like had it been raining!

Eventhough it was the middle of the day, there were lots of wildlife around. I've never seen so many emus in a such a small section of road.

The accommodation in Wentworth was a bit of a long story... On our trip to Qld last October, Wentworth was supposed to be our first overnight stop. I had booked a room at the motel but it was a non-refundable special price, and when Jo's bike started playing up on the Calder and we changed our plans, I forfeited the accommodation. I had rung the motel to tell him we wouldn't be coming, and he said well if we were coming back through later in our trip just to let him know and he'd give us a room...

so roll the clock forward 5 months, and I wasn't sure he'd still be willing to give us credit on the lost booking from Oct, but I called a day or so ahead of time and spoke to the owner and told him I was wanting to redeem my night's accommodation and he said no worries come along and we'll see what we can do.

So we rock up on Sunday and I say "hey remember me I rang the other day, i had to cancel the booking in October but i'm here now. "no worries" he says. "A twin or a double? Double it is... come this way. By the way I've just taken over the lease from the other guy but I'll honour your booking" Are you sure? No worries... So he puts the aircon on, opens the blinds, brings some milk and a key for the room... top bloke. I did feel a bit guilty about taking the room without paying, but he refused any extra cash...

It was way too hot last night to do any sightseeing in town, so we checked out the sights in the morning before departing. First to the Old Wentworth Gaol (which doesn't really look that old)

and the spot where the Murray and Darling Rivers join. That is the darling in the foreground and the Murray behind.

it was 590km to home, and the forecast for the late afternoon was for thunderstorms in Melbourne, so the plan is as follows. Get the hell out of Dodge early, and ride the most direct route home. We only stopped about once every 100km (although I think I got a bit carried away on the run to home and didn't stop for the last 200km from Inglewood.

Came across what must have been the General Store in Bridgewater On Loddon which is now a bike shop which specialises in selling parts for old Nortons.

Mallee-time...I'm sure they'll tick to a different clock up there, remembering all those weather-reports with Ouyen topping the temp-charts.

Love those Flinders shots, what a landscape!
