It was only about 20 mins out of Cooma when we made a right turn and started a series of dirt roads to connect us to the Barry Way

With snow on the tops, and not a cloud in the sky. The day was shaping up nicely.

The iconic Barry way. It was the perfect day to be out and about.

Nice road ahead - just outside Wee Jasper

If you don't already know, around 4.5km south of the Goodradigbee bridge (at Wee Jasper) is the Nottingham Road turn-off, follow that for another 6km you'll to the Micalong Creek Camping Reserve.

This is the site of the New Years Rally and Bards of the Bush gathering held every New Years Eve (d'oh) and early December each year (well, for the past 3 or 4 years), at one of the sweetest camping ground you're ever likely to find.

And the road too and from (at least the sealed section) is one of the sweetest rides too.

Here's some pics I prepared earlier.

The camping area:

The Mighty CB1300, Classic trailer and camp-setup - was comfortable for three days, then the ice melted.

The first stop on the Barry Way. It was super heavenly to be here.

The imaginary flag dropped...and they were off. Even the dust had cleared by the time I got the camera out.

If you were gonna break down anywhere in the world. This would be the best spot. Bugger calling for help. Just stay here!

Try saying that quickly after a bottle of Gin. Not that we did of course. We is responsible bikers. Tongue twisters aren't for us! :killingme

Staying here wasn't an option. We pushed on for a late lunch at Buchan.

Mr Fish then assumed lead duties and took us through a delightful short cut that joined up with the Alpine Rd.
It was still warm and the smell of freshly burnt forest pervaded the senses.
Perhaps this road should have been closed...W-)

We bounced our way down a steep track to have this super spot appear before us.

Then it was on to Buchan, which welcomed us with open arms.

And there was time to stop and smell the Cactus before continuing on to our destination of Heyfield.

I suspect that this is where all those majestic rivers end up. The food bowl for Vic at Lindenow, not far from Bairnsdale.

The Motel at Heyfield. What a cracking town!

P1080633-X2.jpg

We walked into town for a beer and some food.

The young ones...straight onto the phones!

I think that was the bar lady's car out front. It was a tad quiet in town.

After a great feed at a Chinese restaurant just up the road. We made the long walk home.
No one wanted to take this fella on!
