Default March Meander

Bikes were packed and loaded Sunday morning. We were heading west, so to start the trip we went as far as Maribyrnong in the morning and stopped for lunch with Jo's parents, then headed out on the western Hwy. Uneventful trip to Horsham only stopping for a break in Beaufort.

Monday morning we headed out through Natimuk to Frances. Just outside Natimuk the scenery is framed.

In Coonalpyn a mural made of tiles in a fence.

and a mural on the grain silos in the main street

After a tour through the Adelaide Hills we stopped for the night in Hahndorf

No sooner were we off our bikes at the motel then another couple of bikes turned up. One rider came over and had a chat. He introduced himself and said something about Corryong... It was Aprilia Bob and Uncle Rod from the OpenRoad Tourers.

Headed north through the hills to Gawler, than across some dirt to the Hwy just south of Port Wakefield.

The road started off as a wide graded dirt track but degraded by the km.

Port Victoria

and we stopped in Kadina for the night.

Wednesday morning we queued up at Wallaroo for ferry to Lucky Bay.

The bikes just get nosed into the vertical supports and then tied down to a D shackle on the railing. I wasn't too sure about how many tiedowns they'd have so I bought some at a bike shop in Kadina the night before, but it turned out they had sufficient. I don't have any good tiedowns at home anyhow so they'll come in handy.

Off the ferry and west to Lock.

From Lock we headed south to Port Lincoln where we stayed 2 nights to see the sights, relax, and visit a mate who I worked with at a previous job for 20 years who has moved here.

Matthew Flinders and Makybe Diva sculptures in Port Lincoln

Moonrise over Boston Bay

Next morning we obtained a key to the gate on Whalers Way and set off down the unmaintained road around the southern tip of the Yorke Peninsular.

The road was very rocky, and partly sandy, and when it wasn't rocky or partly sandy it was very sandy.

When you dig a deep enough hole in the sand the bike stand becomes redundant...
