Sir Franc's first country Christmas

The theory now seems to be to just dump a heap of WD40 into the stepper motor without pulling things apart.
I'm just checking with somebody I know who had to replace the starter. From memory his bike would crank when hot but not fire. You had to let it cool down before it would start. The opposite of your problem.
Have you moved the 30A fuse up to the top of the battery? That again seems to be the standard solution. I have seen stories of intermittent running issues where the fuse itself is okay but the fittings corrode and contact on them becomes suspect and variable.

Normally from cold with a Tiger (and I think all FI Triumphs) you just push the starter and bike will sort it self out.

I assume you mean push and keep your finger on the starter till it fires. That's how both of mine have worked (no throttle).

On Janices Ducati you just stab the starter button and take your finger away and off it goes.

Have relocated the fuse after the original fuse holder/assembly had corroded. There ain't no way any moisture is getting near the new unit.

No pillion pegs on Rog's Africa Twin nor Mr Fish's BMW so a dink home was not an option.

What a yarn!! :doh::chug::chug:
Sorry to see the tail end of your hols dissolving in a pile of b/s.
That Trump is truly vexed!
Didn't it have the stepper fixed under warranty a few years back? (some rubber-boot added to stop the clogging up of the shaft or something?)
Maybe the fix was made by the same guys who "forgot about it" in the first place...

After reading all that I just had to walk into the garage, look at the Strom that hadn't even been turned over for the last 7 weeks, flip the key, hit the button and....well...it'd bring the Tiger-punters to their knees!!

VRRROOOMMMMM

W-)

(didn't wanna take things too far and try it with the Husky, though....:killingme)

I'm with Glitch . . .
I'd rather a BMW final drive :bs

In fairness for a first up design Triumph did pretty well with the 800 Tigers with only three real issues - welded on pillion pegs/sub frame, stupid 30A fuse under the battery and the stepper motor.

Now everyone knows the stepper motor issue becomes a non issue if it is cleaned and lubed as per Triumph factory recommendations at every scheduled service. Sadly it seems the mechanic I have used last few services has been lazy.....
