Established a bit earlier, became prominent in the 1850's .....

From Wiki ..... during the Victorian gold rushes after the discovery of gold in Victoria in 1851, the government of the colony of Victoria introduced a landing tax of £10 per person to deter Chinese immigrants – more than the cost of their voyage. To bypass the tax, more than 16,000 Chinese people landed at Robe to walk overland for 320 kilometres (200 miles) to the goldfields, mainly at Ballarat and Bendigo. The walk became known as the "Robe Walk".

I don't lke walking to the shops.

Must be a popular spot on the viewing platform.

I'll check the archives for some pics from the early 80's (but not with much confidence). Unlikely to be the same, as I don't recall a viewing platform in those days.
 
I spent one night in Victor Harbor before driving to Adelaide. The plan was to stroll through Adelaide North, Botanical Garden and have a look at the buildings on the banks of River Torrens. I did it all but my feet were moaning. I also had the chance to train the Adelaide Crows but when I entered the pitch were already gone for lunch. ;)
