A gorgeous early-winter Friday.
Clear skies and 20C sunshine.
Nothing else on the schedule but a bad ache of "need-a-ride real bad".
The freshly serviced DR, new hoops and all.
She'd fired instantly after the extended service, valve clearances, oils, filters, a thorough going-over after the 4500km Tassie-run.
The crappy weather of late had prevented a "lap-around-the-block" after all the wrenching to make sure of things.
So the Friday started by rugging up for a cool-ish morning....which got me barely 200m along and across the main intersection before the trusty Zook threw a fit and started to pop+fart real bad
when the throttle is opened, but idling fine when the clutch is pulled. She also spins up clean in neutral, but dies when under load... WTF?
Instant mental list-ticking of what I'd done during the service....and one item stood out right away:
spark-plug leads???
The DR runs dual-plugs and I had removed both caps for access to the valve covers when checking the clearances.... maybe I reversed the leads afterwards.? Does it matter?
Less important the issue of too much S808 Silicone spray used during the tyre changes to make the hoops slip onto the rims....maybe shoulda bolted the new brakepads to the soles of the Forma boots instead, aye?
It'll wear off....
Crawling back into the garage, the suspicion is confirmed checking "The Turnip"'s plug leads...I goofed.
Off come the plastics, tank etc. for access to the plugs, a quick swap of leads/ caps, re-assemble tank/ seat etc for another test run.
This time it's the other direction., not across the busy intersection again.
She winds up without hiccups, great! problem fixed!.....then stumbles and dies.
This feels like fuel though.....massage the fuel-line/ fuel filter etc....and barely make it back to the garage.
I had replaced a semi-perished fuel-hose in Zeehan, but "did it properly with the right stuff" as part of the service at home.
The new fuel-hose proved to be too pliable and kink rather than bent, stopping flow altogether.
Another 30 mins of faffing around, another bit of fuel-hose, rig filters etc, tank and seat off and on, side-panels etc....
....and we're finally..... gingerly...off towards the nearby hills.
This wasn't a ride, this was therapy.
Still blue skies and dry tarmac....
