The Birtles Chronicles--3 days in the hills

What a great few days on the road. Thanks for organising @glitch
Day 1 started out from just outside of Montrose as we headed out towards the Yarra Valley. A quick stop to make sure Bernard hadn't lost his jocks and then onwards towards Healesville, then on to Don Road up to Mt Donna Buang.

A quick stop on the way up to Mt Donna Buang at the glider take off, then up to the lookout for a leg stretch and the mention of peeing which seemed to have a domino effect.

From Mt Donna, we headed back down the Acheron Way, then up towards Marysville for an early lunch and a coffee.

After Marysville, a scenic route to Buxton and the back way out past the Cathedrals before landing at Alexandra for a leg stretch, pee and a look at the Trains.

After Alexandra, we headed up towards Bonnie Doon (yes we were all singing) for a skoot around the water.

Bernard was shocked that I don't keep my jocks in the shaft. :bs

Another quick lookout stop before heading the back way into Mansfield for the evening shenanigans.

Security at the hotel was.... well... lacking :ROFLMAO:

Sunday was out into the Strathbogies. Glitch decided a detour was in order and my bike decided doing a pirouette and then having a little rest was a good idea. Probably should have checked the map and contours before committing to that one. W-)

After we rescued all the bikes off the hill, it was off towards Strathbogie township and up to Mount Wombat for a look.

Lunch back at Strathbogie General Store before @Squizzy and I headed back towards Melbourne, and @glitch and Bernard went off to carry on their adventure.

Thanks for a great weekend. On to the next adventure!

Great weather and good company, so a great couple of days. A few photos from me. Back roads on the way to Mansfield.

Goodie's (now Bernard's) XT250 performed very well. Loaded up it sat on comfortable 80ks on the road.

Good fun and I hope Bernard has a good time over here in the next couple of months.

Thanks to everyone for a great 3 days in the seat...and out there.
It was MUCH NEEDED therapy!

The thanks also go "up there"....for sunshine and dry tracks, some spectacular and dramatic clouds and early morning light across the Delatite Flats...."up there" to Geoff, the fire warden on Mt. Wombat, great to catch up again and still see him looking after us.

Some great pics and excellent start-of-a-yarn in the posts above already....so if it's ok with everyone, I'll split off the last few posts for a fresh thread in the "Out+About" RR-section.

@Squiz..... have you got a new phone or are those pics above mainly from the little camera I saw you using here and there?

Hi Pete, I have had this Olympus phone for a couple of years now, I just forget to bring it sometimes. It's waterproof, so good when the jacket pocket gets full of water.IMG_20250407_205132_023.jpg

Just to add to the above and where things went after parting ways near Strathbogie.....

We cruised the Strathbogies for a bit longer, found the long-closed Ruffy Produce Store still for sale but now in the process of nature and greenery starting to close in....
some glorious sealed sweepers down to Longwood, crossing the Hume Hwy and SYD-MEL railtracks.
A confusing chessboard-pattern of flat and straight country-roads got us to cross the Goulburn River at Murchison for the final run into the dairy-town of Tatura....just as the little XT started to
run low on juice.

A neat, little country motel, a cute and clean main street, a dial-a-pizza and some bike-maintenance finished the day.

"Mr. Birtles".....aka "Hot-Jox-Bernie" :2thumbs-up:

That's the one. Works quite well, not as good a zoom as a bigger camera, but ok. The best camera you can get I the one in your hand when you need it :)

True....but never seen one of those. Sure does some neat pics!
